Seatrec has an immediate opening for an experienced product engineer to support the product design and development of novel ocean energy harvesting technologies. The position involves collaboration with both our Engineering and Commercial teams to develop a robust product pipeline that empowers customers and benefits our oceans. The ideal candidate will be a motivated self-starter with several years of relevant post-undergraduate work experience, demonstrated product engineering, and outstanding communication and interpersonal skills. The product engineer will be instrumental in defining the strategy for energy harvesting products and communicating this strategy to potential customers in research, defense and commercial market.

Position Responsibilities 

• Design, build, and deliver best-in-class energy solutions for ocean applications.
• Be a consummate team player committed to delivering world-class engineering solutions
• Interface with customers for user needs and feedback on defining key features and incorporate same into our product pipeline
• Communicate the strategy across all relevant teams and stakeholders
• Own product analytics and manage KPIs, including distribution, engagement and monetization
• Work with teams to ensure optimal resourcing and identifying any bottlenecks

Position Requirements

• Bachelor of Science (BS) or equivalent in engineering or related field from an accredited university
• At least 3 years of relevant post-undergraduate work experience
• Proven history of commercializing hardware products
• Experience in full-cycle product management
• Excellent communications, organizational and interpersonal skills
• Collaborator with patience and ability to listen, and absorb disparate input
• Data-driven decision maker with strong prioritization skills

Desired Capabilities:

• Knowledge of ocean sciences, related underwater industries, and unique marine-environment engineering challenges
• US Citizenship or permanent residence and the ability to travel worldwide.

Location:

The position is located in the city of Vista of North San Diego County, California.

About Seatrec:

Seatrec designs and manufactures energy harvesting systems that generate electricity from naturally occurring temperature differences in the environment. Seatrec was incorporated in 2016 as a spinoff from NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory, California Institute of Technology. With funding from private investors, government grants, and industry contracts, Seatrec released its first commercial product in 2019.
