Seatrec has an immediate opening for a mechanical engineer to support the design, development, and production of novel ocean energy harvesting technologies. The ideal candidate will be a motivated self-starter with several years of relevant post-undergraduate work experience, demonstrated technical capabilities, and outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.  The successful applicant will work with the Seatrec engineering team on multiple simultaneous objectives ranging from fundamental research to product development and production for customers in the research, defense, and commercial sectors.

Position Responsibilities:

• Apply engineering principles and practices to the design, development, and production of underwater energy harvesting systems and related electromechanical devices
• Work with minimal supervision on assigned tasks to meet defined deadlines
• Engage constructively and professionally with a small and dynamic engineering team working on multiple simultaneous projects
• Select and procure parts and equipment to meet design and production requirements in accordance with company procedures
• Interact with equipment vendors, machine shops, and other outside services to assure product quality and timely delivery
• Safely utilize and maintain shop equipment, including hand and power tools
• Author and maintain appropriate engineering and customer documentation

Position Requirements:

• Bachelor of Science (BS) or equivalent in mechanical engineering or related field from an accredited university
• At least 3 years of relevant post-undergraduate work experience
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
• Appropriate shop skills, including the correct and safe usage of manual and power tools and the ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
• A valid driver’s license

Desired Capabilities:

• Experience with phase change materials, heat transfer analysis and modeling, refrigeration systems, industrial waste heat recovery, hydraulic components and systems, or electrical energy generation, storage, and distribution.
• Experience with metal fabrication processes (welding, milling, turning, finishing).
• Familiarity with AUV, ROV, and underwater sensor and interconnect technologies.
• Knowledge of ocean sciences, related underwater industries, and unique marine-environment engineering challenges
• US Citizenship or permanent residence and the ability to travel worldwide.

Location:

The position is located in the city of Vista of North San Diego County, California.
