Electrical Engineer

Seatrec has an immediate opening for an electrical engineer to support the design, development, and production of novel ocean energy harvesting technologies. The ideal candidate will be a motivated self-starter with several years of relevant post-undergraduate work experience, demonstrated technical capabilities, and outstanding communication and interpersonal skills. The successful applicant will work with the Seatrec engineering team on multiple simultaneous objectives ranging from fundamental research to product development and production for customers in the research, defense, and commercial sectors.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Apply engineering principles and practices to the design, development, and production of underwater energy harvesting systems and related electromechanical devices
  • Work with minimal supervision on assigned tasks to meet defined deadlines
  • Engage constructively and professionally with a small and dynamic engineering team working on multiple simultaneous projects
  • Design and fabricate instrumentation, data acquisition, and power distribution electrical wiring on electromechanical laboratory test systems
  • Design and review electrical schematics and PCB layouts for low-power consumption, high-efficiency control boards for energy harvesting products
  • Develop processes for specifying, implementing, and testing reliable and reusable embedded firmware
  • Write monitoring and control software for laboratory prototype and product development
  • Assist in planning field testing of prototypes and development systems
  • Analyze and present lab and field test results in concise and compelling formats

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) or equivalent in electrical engineering or related field from an accredited university
  • At least 3 years of relevant post-undergraduate work experience
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Familiarity with hand tools for wiring and soldering
  • C programming
  • Git version control system
  • MATLAB and LabVIEW
  • Serial communications protocols such as RS-232, RS-485, CAN, I2C, SPI
  • Valid driver’s license

Desired Experience:

  • Experience with MSP430 and STM32 microcontroller architectures
  • Familiarity with AUV, ROV, and underwater sensor and interconnect technologies
  • Knowledge of ocean sciences, related underwater industries, and unique marine-environment engineering challenges
  • US Citizenship or permanent residence and the ability to travel worldwide

Location:

The position is located in the city of Vista of North San Diego County, California.
